How to delete pages from a PDF, including blank pages

Identify the pages you want to remove

Use Delete PDF Pages when most of a document should stay and only a few pages should be removed. If you want to keep just one or two pages from a long document, Extract PDF Pages may be easier.

Start with a readable PDF and retain the original. The tool creates a downloadable result; it does not overwrite the source file on your device.

• Select pages to remove, rather than pages to keep. This is the opposite of the selection in Split PDF.
• Use PDF page positions starting at 1. Printed page labels can differ after a cover, contents page, or unnumbered insert.
• Keep at least one page. The tool cannot create a zero-page PDF.

Delete PDF pages step by step

1. Open Delete PDF Pages and choose one PDF, or drag it into the upload area.
2. Wait for the page previews. Under Select pages to remove, click each unwanted page. Click a selected preview again if you want to keep it.
3. Review Selected pages. You can also type numbers or ranges, such as 1,4,7 or 3-5.
4. Confirm that the selected numbers refer to the unwanted pages in the original document and that at least one page will remain.
5. Select Delete pages. When Your file is ready appears, select Download.
6. Open the downloaded PDF and check its page count and sequence before sharing.

Remove blank pages from a scanned PDF

A double-sided scan can include blank backs of sheets. Inspect the previews to identify them, then select their original positions. For example, if every even page of a six-page scan is blank, enter 2,4,6. The result should contain the original pages 1,3,5.

Blank pages are not detected automatically by this tool. You choose which pages to remove. A small preview can hide faint writing, a footer, or a pale stamp, so open the source in a PDF viewer and zoom in when a page is uncertain.

A blank page may also be intentional, such as a divider or a page used to make a section start on the right side when printed. Check the document’s intended use before removing it.

Use page ranges without deleting the wrong content

Page numbers refer to positions in the uploaded PDF. All selected pages are removed in one operation, so you do not need to adjust the numbers for earlier deletions. Selecting 2,5 removes the original second and fifth pages.

The remaining pages keep their relative order. Removing page 2 from a five-page document produces the original pages 1,3,4,5. It does not rewrite printed page numbers, update a contents page, or renumber references in the text.

• 1 removes the first page.
• 3-5 removes pages 3, 4, and 5.
• 1,4-6 removes the first page and pages 4, 5, and 6.
• 2,2,4 removes pages 2 and 4 once each.
• Use ascending ranges and numbers within the file’s page count.
• To remove the last page, enter its position: for an eight-page PDF, enter 8.

Check the page count and remaining sequence

Subtract the number of distinct selected pages from the original count. Removing three pages from an eight-page document should leave five pages. Repeated numbers in the selection do not remove extra pages.

Inspect the beginning and end of the result, and the pages immediately before and after each removed section. Check that headings still have their supporting text, tables are complete, and the document has the attachments the reader needs.

For a report with printed page numbers or a contents page, decide whether those references need updating in the original editing application. Deleting a PDF page does not automatically repair them.

Common deletion errors and how to fix them

• “Enter page numbers”: nothing is selected. Click a preview or type the numbers of pages to remove.
• “At least one page must remain”: you selected every page. Deselect at least one page, or keep the original if it is a one-page document.
• The range is rejected: use commas and ascending ranges such as 1,3-5. Remove trailing commas and numbers beyond the page count.
• The result contains the pages you meant to delete: check that you used Delete PDF Pages rather than Split PDF or Extract PDF Pages. The deletion selection means remove.
• The wrong page disappeared: compare original PDF positions with printed page labels. Load the original and try again.
• A blank page remains: confirm its original position and that it was selected. Blank-page detection is manual.
• Previews are slow or unavailable: try a smaller, readable file and allow time for rendering. Large graphics and long documents need more device memory.
• The file fails to process: check that it opens in a PDF viewer. A damaged or password-protected document may require a readable, unprotected copy you are authorized to use.
• You downloaded an older result: return to the original, correct the selection, process again, and download the new output.

Understand file handling and deletion limits

The tool processes your PDF in your browser. Your selected document content is not uploaded to FreePDFsTools for page deletion. Save the result before closing or reloading the tab, and keep your source document until you have finished checking.

Deleting pages removes whole pages from the resulting document. It does not erase a sentence, hide a name, or redact an image within a page. It is not a secure-redaction tool and does not guarantee removal of metadata, attachments, or other hidden information.

Bookmarks, links, interactive forms, and digital signatures may not work as they did in the original after changes. If the document is signed or contains important form fields, inspect the output in the PDF viewer you plan to use.
