Example: a six-page scan starts with the last page
A scanner saved the sheets backward, so the PDF shows printed pages 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Reverse the document order to 6,5,4,3,2,1 using PDF positions. The output then shows printed pages 1 through 6. Check that a separate cover or blank sheet does not also need moving.
Check whether the problem is order or orientation
A backward document presents the final page before the first page. A sideways page has an orientation problem. Reversing the sequence changes where pages appear; it does not rotate their contents.
Look at the first and last previews and a page in the middle. If each page is upright but the sequence runs backward, use Reorder PDF Pages. If the sequence is correct but pages are sideways or upside down, use Rotate PDF instead. Some scans need both operations.
Reverse every PDF page
- Open Reorder PDF Pages and choose your PDF.
- Inspect the page previews and confirm that all pages belong in the reversed sequence.
- Select Reverse order. For a six-page document, the Order field becomes 6,5,4,3,2,1.
- Check the updated order before selecting Reorder pages.
- Download the result and open it in a PDF viewer.
- Confirm that the first and last pages are correct and that the middle pages follow the intended reading order.
Handle a cover or appendix separately
A simple reverse is correct only when the whole PDF is backward. If the cover already comes first while the remaining pages are reversed, keep the cover in position and rearrange the rest.
For example, a six-page PDF contains a cover at position 1 followed by five pages in reverse order. Enter 1,6,5,4,3,2 to keep the cover first and reverse the remaining pages. Order numbers refer to the original PDF positions, not the labels printed inside the pages. Every position must appear exactly once.
When a scan needs more than one reversal
Some scans contain odd pages first and even pages afterward. Others combine separate sections with different ordering problems. Reversing the whole file will not automatically repair those patterns.
Use the move controls or enter an explicit list after inspecting each page. A four-page file showing printed pages 1,3,2,4 needs the position order 1,3,2,4. In longer files, use headings and continuation text to confirm the sequence instead of guessing from thumbnails alone.
Check page numbering and references
Changing page order can affect bookmarks, forms and digital signatures in the new document. Review important outputs in the viewer you plan to use. For a document requiring a valid digital signature, work from an appropriate unsigned source and follow its signing process.
- Check the cover, contents, first chapter, last section and any appendix.
- Confirm that continuation sentences and tables run in the right direction.
- Reordering does not replace printed page numbers or update a contents page.
- Remove unwanted blank sheets separately using Delete PDF Pages.
- Keep the original until you have checked the complete download.
File handling and troubleshooting
The PDF is reordered on your device. Selected document contents are not uploaded to FreePDFsTools for this operation. There is no fixed file-size cap, but long or complex documents may exceed available browser memory.
If an entered order is rejected, check that each original page position appears once, with no missing, repeated or out-of-range number. Reordering cannot delete or duplicate pages; use the dedicated tools for those tasks. Download the result before closing the tab.
Put the guide into practice
Start with a copy of your document and check the result before sharing it.
