Example: fix a scan saved backwards
A four-page scan is stored in reverse order. Reverse order produces pages 4,3,2,1. If only the cover is misplaced, move that page to the top instead of reversing the entire document.
Identify the original page numbers
Open the source PDF and decide what the reader should see first. Reordering changes the sequence of whole pages; it does not move paragraphs or images within a page. The source document remains available on your device.
Use the page position shown in the preview, starting at 1. Printed labels can differ when a document has a cover, contents page, or unnumbered appendix.
Reorder pages step by step
- Open Reorder PDF Pages and select your PDF. Wait for the previews and page-order controls to load.
- Use the original page previews to identify the cover, sections, and ending.
- Move a page up or down in the list. The numbered position on the left shows where it will appear in the result.
- To turn a backwards document around, choose Reverse order. To start again, choose Reset order.
- Select Reorder pages, then Download. Open the result and confirm the sequence before sending it.
Enter a complete sequence manually
The Page order field accepts original page numbers separated by commas. For a three-page document, 3,1,2 places the last page first, followed by the original first and second pages. Include every page exactly once.
Unlike Split PDF, this field does not accept ranges or omit pages. That prevents accidental page loss while reordering. Use Extract PDF Pages or Delete PDF Pages for a shorter document.
Fix page-order problems
- A page number is repeated or missing: Reset order and try again. The sequence must include every page once.
- Up and down controls disappear after typing: your sequence is incomplete or invalid. Finish the sequence or reset it.
- A printed page label does not match the preview: use the original PDF position, not the printed label.
- The file fails to load: try a readable, unprotected PDF. Very large or damaged documents may not work.
Check the finished document
The result should have the same number of pages as the original. Check the opening page, section transitions, and final page. Links, bookmarks, forms, and signatures may not behave the same after pages are copied into a new PDF.
If your document contains printed page numbers, changing its sequence does not rewrite those numbers. Keep this in mind before distributing the result.
Put the guide into practice
Start with a copy of your document and check the result before sharing it.
