How to split a PDF receipt bundle into separate files

Split PDF receipts free, select the correct pages and download separate PDFs in one ZIP. Check multi-page receipts before sharing. No signup.

Example: separate a monthly receipt bundle

A five-page PDF contains four receipts: three occupy one page each, and the fourth occupies pages 4–5. Export pages 1–3 as Separate PDFs, then export 4–5 as One PDF. You now have four receipt documents, with the two-page receipt kept together.

Identify where each receipt starts and ends

A PDF page is not always a complete receipt. Before splitting, open the bundle and match each purchase to its date, merchant, amount and page positions. A continuation page can contain totals, payment details or information that belongs with the previous page.

Use PDF positions starting at 1 rather than printed page labels. A cover sheet or summary can shift those positions. Splitting does not recognize receipts automatically, and it does not read amounts or categorize expenses.

Export one-page receipts together

  1. Open Split PDF and choose the receipt bundle from your device.
  2. Use previews to select the pages containing complete, one-page receipts. Enter a range such as 1-3 or a list such as 1,3,6.
  3. Choose Separate PDFs under Save selected pages as.
  4. Select Create separate PDFs. Check the page numbers listed beside the downloads.
  5. Choose Download all as ZIP to save those separate PDFs in one archive.
  6. Extract the ZIP with your file manager, open each receipt and rename it if needed. Keep the original bundle until your checks are complete.

Keep a multi-page receipt in one document

If one receipt spans pages 4 and 5, select 4-5 and choose One PDF. Process and download that selection before moving to the next receipt. Separate PDFs would create two documents and could leave the amount or payment information separated from the transaction.

For several multi-page receipts, repeat the One PDF workflow for each range. The tool does not batch arbitrary ranges into one file per receipt. If unrelated pages interrupt a receipt, select its actual positions, such as 4,6, and verify the reading order in the result.

Use filenames that help you find the transaction

Separate exports use the source filename and original page position, such as expenses-page-3.pdf. The filename describes the page you selected; it does not identify the merchant or transaction date.

After checking the receipt, consider a consistent name such as 2026-10-02-office-supplies.pdf. Avoid putting unnecessary account numbers or personal details in a filename. A file manager may sort page-10 before page-2, so check numeric positions rather than assuming alphabetical order is the document order.

Check the files before reimbursement or bookkeeping

A ZIP is a download container. The PDFs inside remain independent files, and the total archive size is not guaranteed to be smaller than the original. Splitting also does not make scanned text editable or apply OCR.

  • Confirm that the merchant, date, items and total are visible and readable.
  • Include continuation pages when they are part of the same receipt.
  • Extract the ZIP before using an upload field that accepts PDF files only.
  • Follow your recipient’s requirements for filenames, supporting documents and attachment size.
  • Remove an unrelated page only after checking that it is not part of the required record.

Privacy, limits and sensitive receipts

Your selected PDF content is processed in your browser rather than uploaded to FreePDFsTools for splitting. There is no fixed size cap in this tool, but large bundles and detailed scans can exceed available device memory. Try a smaller selection if processing becomes slow.

Splitting creates new documents from selected pages. It is not secure redaction and does not guarantee removal of hidden information. Check the files before sharing, use an authorized readable copy if a PDF is protected, and download the results before closing the tab.
